What We Believe About Work
The Center for Faith and Business (CFB) is affiliated with Concordia University in Irvine, California. All Center programs and activities reflect the Christian perspective of work which is than an individual’s work is their vocation or sacred calling from God.
We believe all Christians are called to particular vocations and tasks, through which God works to govern the world and care for His people of the world. God calls each believer to view work through His lens, finding genuine purpose and true fulfillment in doing His will. The ordinary Christians work, whether as homemakers or paid workers, are ways in which they serve their neighbors and worship God. All believers have a universal ministry to others. When Christians fulfill their work duties, to the best of their abilities and with utmost diligence, then they are rendering the highest service to God.
We believe that Christians are called to serve God in the workplace. This principle helps believers understand how God does everyday things through them for the world He loves. Work, therefore, is a sacred vocation or calling from God. God wants Christians to live a life (including a work-life) that puts Him at the center, that subordinates individual will to His will and that makes spiritual growth a priority. God did not create Christians to live a dualistic life, one that relegates spiritual life to the church on Sunday while living independent of Him the other six days of the week. Rather, God wants a believer’s faith and life to be seamless.
The Center’s programs emphasize the interrelatedness of all Christian teachings, with its central position being the doctrine of justification (salvation) by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ. The Center’s programs serve various churches and denominations and focuses on a common goal of representing Christ in the workplace.
